Because it’s the first day of May. And *NSYNC got a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame yesterday. And because I’m always #TeamNSYNC even before hashtags were cool!
Throwback Track Thursday: “All I Want” – Toad the Wet Sprocket
Sometimes, I wonder if kids today will look back at this era of music decades from now and still enjoy the artists of the day as much as kids in my day look back to the music and artists of the 80’s and 90’s. There are so many songs from that period that I either know the lyrics by heart or, at the very least, sing the chorus convincingly! I miss songs like “All I Want” by Toad the Wet Sprocket. And bands with interesting names!
Tune of the Tuesday: “Be More Kind” – Frank Turner
Sometimes politics isn’t always protest alone, but reminding humanity that kindness is always needed.
Throwback Track Thursday: “Too Close” – Next
Back in the day, there seemed to be many R&B/pop vocal groups like Riff, Hi-Five, Boyz II Men, and Next. Just as music seems to cycle through genres, reminiscing on the music of that day has me wondering and waiting for the reinvention of these groups sometime soon.
Tune of the Tuesday: “Youngblood” – 5 Seconds of Summer
The bass of the song remind me of Londonbeat and the house/dance music of the 1990s. The muted staccato of vocals in the first few bars before the chords get drawn out are definitively catchy.
Throwback Track Thursday: “Return of the Mack” – Mark Morrison
Having chosen so many playlists from the 1990s on SongPop2, it’s no wonder so many songs like this one have me wondering what ever happened to distinctive voices like the one Morrison has?
Tune of the Tuesday: “People’s Champ” – Arkells
The funk. The tempo. The mastering of the vocal tracks. But the lyrics above all else! Love “People’s Champ” by Arkells!
Throwback Track Thursday: “Can’t Help Falling In Love” -UB40
I’ve been playing the game app SongPop mostly for the older music playlists that remind me of music I used to have on cassette tapes but have yet to get a CD or digital copy of. UB40’s music is something I listened to often in my youth. This song is one I can’t forget. The introductory bars are that memorable!
Tune of the Tuesday: “You Matter To Me” – Carrie Hope Fletcher featuring Oliver Ormson
This version of the song highlights the vocals of each singer so beautifully! I like the fact that the instrumental tracks are kept fairly sparse, mixed so that they support the voices that are strong in sentiment. The moment when the blend of harmonies begins… exquisite!
Throwback Track Thursday: “Together Forever” – Rick Astley
There are some songs I listened to so often, be it on the radio, homemade mix tapes, or music videos of the day that their music and lyrics are part of my long term music memories. Rick Astley’s song is one of those songs, long before there was an idea of Rick-rolled!
