I love Cary Brothers’ music. “Blue Eyes”, from the soundtrack for the movie “Garden State” was exquisite on its own. But when it comes as a funky cover by Scary Pockets featuring Cary Brothers himself?! Somehow, the song gets that much better. And funkier. Which is a good thing on an already great thing. Love this version, hoping to buy a copy of it sometime soon. One can always hope… which I am!

Throwback Track Thursday: “Iesha” – Another Bad Creation
This song introduces a number of groups produced by Michael Bivens of Bell Biv Devoe, including my favourites of them all… Boyz II Men!
Tune of the Tuesday: “New Rules x Are You That Somebody?” – Pentatonix
I love a cappella. Hearing the purity of tone, when vocal harmonies blend effortlessly… that is something I really appreciate. When a group like Pentatonix takes the art of a cappella to another level, amazing things happen! I love this cover/mash-up because of the mix of a current hit Dua Lipa’s “New Rules” with one of the old-school hits of back in my day, Aaliyah’s “Are You That Somebody”.
Tune of the Tuesday: “Pretty Pimpin” – Kurt Vile
Prior to a Kim Churchill show, the sound person was playing so many tracks from Kurt Vile’s 2015 album that after shazamming them all, I had to buy the whole album. This track is particularly catchy.
Throwback Track Thursday: “More Than Ever” – Nelson
Reminiscing about my youth with a friend, this song came to mind.
Tune of the Tuesday: “Be More Kind” – Frank Turner
Because not only does the world always need more kindness… the lyrics and chords just make this song so much more! Glad for new Frank Turner music, can’t wait until the whole album is released!
Throwback Track Thursday: “Billie Jean” – Michael Jackson
There is just something about a rhythmic bass line.
Tune of the Tuesday: “Want You Back” – 5 Seconds of Summer
Enjoying the evolution of sound from 5SOS, particularly the addition of keys, which goes a bit more pop than past albums but is still a song you can easily see performed by the band themselves, with instruments live as opposed to singing relegated to a backing instrumental production track.
Throwback Track Thursday: “(Can’t Live Without Your) Love and Affection – Nelson
The hair. The guitar kicks.
Belated Tune of the Tuesday: “Dearly Departed” – Shakey Graves
This song just gets better when performed live!
